OUR VISION

SCHOOLS/RISKY BEHAVIORS COMMITTEE

The Schools Committee of the Healthy Youth Development Advisory Board recognizes the impact and influence of our schools on the growth and development of our youth. Our goal is to involve all schools in Erie County to the fullest extent possible in supporting and contributing to comprehensive youth development. During the first annual Healthy Youth Development Week in Erie County (October 2004), the School Committee implemented a program to formally recognize a school and/or school activity that successfully furthers the positive development of our youth and serves as a role model for other school programs. Our future goals include compiling resources and assisting schools in providing skills-building workshops for parents that will better enable them to support their children's educational process.

The Risky Behaviors Committee of the Healthy Youth Development Advisory Board recognizes that certain behaviors put the health of our youth at peril, and meets to promote addressing all five high risk behavior areas:

1) delinquency
2) teen pregnancy and risky sexual behaviors
3) violence
4) substance use
5) school failure and dropout.

We also will be promoting prevention education and expansion of those prevention opportunities and resources in the schools and communities across Erie County.
