COMMITTEES: Alternative Youth Activities Executive Committee Members |
PARENTS COMMITTEE The Parents Committee of the Healthy Youth Development Advisory Board recognizes that healthy youth development necessitates confident and prepared parents, and since children don't come with directions, and all parents start out as novices, they may likely benefit from some additional information. Parent education and training opportunities are available in Erie County , but there are some gaps that need to be filled. Motivating parents to find time in their hectic lives to attend these opportunities, even if they are aware of them, is a challenge. During Healthy Youth Development Week in October, 2005, the Parents Committee will solicit information from parents on what they want and need to become confident, caring parents, and how the community can best serve their needs. The Parents Committee will also coordinate the flow of that information to appropriate community agencies, programs, schools and religious groups. Goal: To help parents in Erie City and County to have the skills to raise healthy and stable families, and to make certain that they have information on and access to the necessary services and supports to help them. |
